2024 Photography Contest
A Collaboration with the Santa Ynez Valley Botanic Garden and the California Nature and Art Museum welcomes you to take photos in the garden and participate in this fun photography contest with opportunity for your art to be displayed and prizes for contest winners.
Visitors of all ages who come to the Botanic Garden are inspired by the natural world of flora and fauna, finding creative expression and engagement throughout the seasons. This spring, we are celebrating California Native Plant month with our first annual photography contest, open to amateur photographers of all ages.
Beginning April 15th through May 15th, 2024 come to the Garden and discover your own connection to the native plants of the Garden.
Submit your photographs, following the contest rules below, for a chance to win a cash prize and recognition on the Garden’s and Museum’s websites. Children’s submissions will be displayed in the Education Gallery at the California Nature and Art Museum.
Rules & Guidelines
The Senior Division is open to senior high school and college students and other adults. The Youth Division is open to children of all ages up to and including Middle School students. Entries by photographers under the age of 18 are welcome, but entry must be submitted with a parent/guardian’s contact information.
There is a $20.00 entry fee for the Senior Division - Entry for current SYVBG Members is free. Your entry fee can be paid by clicking the ‘Donate’ button on the Garden’s website, www.syvbotanicgarden.org
Senior Division entries will be awarded First, Second, and 3 Honorable Mentions. First prize will receive $500.00, Second Prize $300.00 and honorable mentions will receive $150.00.
The Youth Division entries are free and will be awarded First, Second and Third place gift cards in the amount of $50.00.
The photograph must be taken at the Santa Ynez Valley Botanic Garden and must feature at least one California native plant found in the Garden.
Photographs may be black and white or in color.
Photographs must be submitted with the form linked below in .pdf or .jpg format by midnight on May 15th, 2024. Only one photograph per artist will be accepted.
Adult Division winners will be framed and displayed at an opening for the artists at the California Nature and Art Museum. Youth Division submissions will be mounted and displayed California Nature and Art Museum.
The Santa Ynez Valley Botanic Garden and the California Nature and Art Museum reserve the right to use photographs submitted for future publication for the organizations.
Judging Criteria
Accurate rendering of plants and plant/animal interactions.
Visibility and clarity of design.
Originality of style and concept.
Preference given to artists who are based in California.
Photographers George Rose, Derek Glas and Jose Villa will be judging.
